Dickhurst/Shillinglee.

Leave Haslemere (by car) and head for Petworth along the B2131, past the Lythe Hill Hotel. When you reach the T Junction/A283, turn right, and almost immediately turn right down a track leading to Dickhurst House. There is a sort of lay-by there, some 50 yards from the main road. So park there and you are ready to go.

1. Walk back to the main road, turn left, and at the top of the hill you will see a footpath/stile on the right – the Sussex Border Path (SBP). Continue to follow the SBP, ignoring two sets of footpaths to right and left, until you reach a minor road, then turn right down the road and into Shillinglee.
2. Follow the road left past the Shillinglee Home Farm, and at that point carry straight on over a cattle grid (the road goes a sharpish left).
3. About 100 yards further on there is a stile on the right, which you leap over, and follow the path to the next stile. Cross the field heading towards some large trees (sheep often in this field), in the middle of it you will see the next stile.
4. This stile takes you through a copse into a very large field with nursery plantations on the right. Head left across this field to the far left-hand corner, where you turn right to cross another copse.
5. Straight across this field, leaving Eastland Farm (looks unoccupied) on the right, then follow the farm road to Fisherstreet. Cross straight over the A283, and follow the Footpath (FP) signs. When you reach a field, cross it diagonally, vault over the stile, cross the minor road and follow the FP signs to the right.
6. Follow a very wet path uphill and do not be tempted to go left. This then leads you back to your car.

A SHORTER VERSION
Having started on the SBP, take the second FP to the right. This will bring you down to the approach road to Shillinglee, so turn left along the road. When you get to the Shillinglee Home Farm follow the other directions.
